October has been declared National Substance Awareness Month by local,
State and Federal government. F.F.I.A. with the support of both our city governments,
police departments, Farmington Public Schools and many other local agencies and businesses
use this month to heighten awareness and educate the public on issues pertaining to
substance abuse. Red ribbons are worn as a symbol of a healthy drug fee life-style. They
are distributed citywide and decorate many citizens, buildings, lamp posts and schools
during the month. Many schools have programs and activities concerning substance abuse. A
community breakfast, educational seminars and fund-raisers run by local businesses are but
a few of the activities that go on during the month.
